Bears coach Ben Johnson said Tuesday it's still "to be determined" whether Williams and the rest of the starting unit will suit up for Sunday's preseason opener against the Dolphins, Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Johnson said any playing time for Williams won't be determined until he's had a chance to talk to Miami head coach Mike McDaniel, per Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, so it sounds like Chicago's first-team units won't se much action unless they're getting a chance to hone their skills against the Dolphins' starters. As Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic notes, Williams has had an up-and-down training camp to date, with Johnson saying that the first-team offense was "sloppier than we were hoping we would be at this point" during Sunday's open practice scrimmage. It's worth noting that Williams had a particularly challenging offseason, which included rehab from January wrist surgery, learning a new offensive system, and building chemistry with both a revamped offensive line and a pair of significant rookie pass-catchers in Colston Loveland and Luther Burden. Growing pains are to be expected, but fantasy managers anticipating a Year 2 breakout would get some reassurance if Williams looks comfortable in preseason action.

Taylor has a high-ankle sprain, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.

Jets coach Aaron Glenn informed reporters of the diagnosis Tuesday, after Taylor missed a second straight practice. Glenn didn't comment on the severity of the sprain, only saying that the rookie will be out for at least a week, per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. A severe high-ankle sprain would threaten Taylor's availability for the early part of the regular season, forcing the Jets to rely on the likes of Jeremy Ruckert and Stone Smartt at tight end. Reports from the first week of training camp had Taylor working with the first-team offense, seemingly already atop the depth chart not long after the team picked him 42nd overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Taylor (ankle) didn't practice Monday, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.

Head coach Aaron Glenn will likely provide an update on Taylor's injury when Glenn speaks to reporters after Tuesday's practice if Taylor hasn't returned by then. Taylor has looked like the Jets' best tight end in training camp and is listed as the backup to Jeremy Ruckert on the unofficial depth chart the team released Sunday, though that may just be a matter of making the rookie second-round pick earn his starting spot in the preseason, which begins for the Jets with a road game in Green Bay on Saturday.

Taylor looks ready to start out of the gate and has been operating ahead of Jeremy Ruckert and Stone Smartt in training camp, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.

Taylor has demonstrated good chemistry with quarterback Justin Fields and drawn praise from wide receiver Garrett Wilson for his playmaking ability. The rookie second-round pick's main competitors for snaps at tight end, Ruckert and Smartt, have combined for only one touchdown catch in 79 regular-season NFL games.

Rams coach Sean McVay said Thursday that Stafford (back) will resume practicing Monday if his preliminary workout before Saturday's preseason opener against the Cowboys goes well, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports.

Stafford (back), who is dealing with what NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports is an aggravated disc, remains week-to-week.

Stafford (back) won't participate in the Rams' jog-through Monday, but will do a workout of his own off to the side, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Brooks took 10 carries for 26 yards and caught one of two targets for three yards in Thursday's preseason loss to the Eagles.

Brooks has clearer path to backfield work behind starter Chase Brown and Samaje Perine in the wake of Cincinnati releasing Zack Moss (neck) on Wednesday, Kelly Singh of SI.com reports.
