Kyle Monangai: Won't suit up Sunday
Sunday, August 17, 2025 7:34 PM
Monangai (undisclosed) isn't in uniform for Sunday's preseason game against the Bills, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Monangai's absence is presumably injury-related, as the rookie seventh-round pick is battling to make the team and even has a chance to carve out a prominent role right away in a Bears backfield that's banged up behind starter D'Andre Swift. Biggs speculates that Monangai may have gotten hurt in Friday's joint practice with the Bills. Ian Wheeler and Brittain Brown are healthy heading into Sunday's exhibition game, as is Swift, while Monangai joins Roschon Johnson (foot), Travis Homer (calf) and Deion Hankins (concussion) among the ranks of injured Bears running backs.

Darrynton Evans: Unavailable Sunday
Sunday, August 17, 2025 7:25 PM
Evans (hamstring) is inactive for Sunday's preseason matchup with the Bears, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
Evans suffered a hamstring injury during the Bills' practice Friday, which will ultimately sideline him for the team's second contest of the preseason. The running back will look to return to action at some point this week in order to play in the team's preseason finale Saturday versus the Buccaneers.

Josh Allen: Unlikely to play Sunday
Sunday, August 17, 2025 6:40 PM
Allen is not warming up with Buffalo's quarterbacks and is unlikely to play during Sunday's preseason exhibition in Chicago, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
Allen was throwing on the field during early pregame warmups, per Getzenberg, but he's not participating in his usual pregame throwing exercises with Buffalo's other quarterbacks. With their QB1 likely sidelined, No. 2 quarterback Mitchell Trubisky should be in line to start for the Bills against Chicago. The 29-year-old Allen signed a six-year, $330 million extension with the Bills this offseason, so it's unclear how much -- if at all -- he'll play during Buffalo's upcoming preseason finale against Tampa Bay on Saturday, Aug. 23.

Rome Odunze: In line to play Sunday
Sunday, August 17, 2025 6:30 PM
Odunze is expected to play along with the rest of Chicago's starters during Sunday's preseason game against the Bills, Sean Hammond of the Chicago Tribune reports.
The Bears did not play their first-team offense or defense during last Sunday's 24-24 tie versus Miami, so Odunze has yet to suit up this preseason. The second-year wideout collected 54 of 101 targets for 734 yards and three touchdowns over 17 games as a rookie, and he's stood out while catching passes from quarterback Caleb Williams during training camp practices. Odunze should be in line for a productive season as Chicago's No. 2 WR behind DJ Moore and ahead of second-round rookie Luther Burden and veteran Olamide Zaccheaus.

D'Andre Swift: Slated to play Sunday
Sunday, August 17, 2025 6:19 PM
Swift is in line to play with the rest of the Bears' starters during Sunday's preseason game against Buffalo, Sean Hammond of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Swift did not play during last Sunday's 24-24 preseason tie versus the Dolphins, as the Bears opted not to play any of their starters during their opening exhibition. This group should get some run during this Sunday's preseason game No. 2, though it's unclear how long the first-team offense will stay on the field versus the Bills. Swift led the Bears' backfield during his first season with the team in 2024, and he should once again serve as RB1 in a room that also includes third-year back Roschon Johnson (foot) and seventh-round rookie Kyle Monangai.

Cole Kmet: Might not suit up versus Bills
Sunday, August 17, 2025 6:10 PM
Kmet may not suit up with the rest of Chicago's starters during Sunday's preseason game against Buffalo, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
The Bears are expected to play their starters versus the Bills, according to Sean Hammond of the Chicago Tribune. This would include Kmet as TE1. But, he was seen working under the supervision of members of Chicago's training staff during early pregame warmups, which indicates that he's not guaranteed to participate in Sunday's exhibition. The 26-year-old was previously sidelined with a back injury for a couple days during training camp before he returned to the field Aug. 8. If Kmet is out, then rookie first-round pick Colston Loveland would be in line to start ahead of fellow tight end Durham Smythe.

Tank Bigsby: First RB into second preseason game
Sunday, August 17, 2025 4:55 PM
Bigsby rushed twice for six yards and caught his only target for 19 yards in Sunday's 17-17 preseason tie against the Saints.
It was encouraging to see Bigsby contribute as a pass catcher considering he had only seven catches last season compared to Travis Etienne's 39. Bigsby played the opening drive Sunday, which culminated in a botched handoff that was credited as a Trevor Lawrence fumble, while Etienne accumulated 32 yards on four touches on the team's second possession before the starters were removed from the game. They seem headed for a backfield split come the regular season and are currently running ahead of rookie fourth-round pick Bhayshul Tuten, who scored a second-quarter touchdown with the backups. Jacksonville's final preseason game will be Saturday against the Dolphins.

Spencer Rattler: Outplays starter Shough on Sunday
Sunday, August 17, 2025 4:54 PM
Rattler completed 18 of 24 passes for 199 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 17-17 preseason tie against the Jaguars. He also rushed three times for 19 yards and ran in a two-point conversion.
After starting the Saints' preseason opener against the Chargers, Rattler waited until the second half to check in Sunday. Tyler Shough got the start but threw for only 66 yards in the first half and failed to lead a touchdown drive as the Saints trailed 17-3 at halftime. Rattler set the team up for a pair of third-quarter field goals, then bounced back from a fourth-quarter interception by throwing a 20-yard touchdown pass to Dante Pettis and running in the subsequent two-point conversion himself to tie the game with 21 seconds left. The pair of young quarterbacks will continue their competition Saturday in the preseason finale against the Broncos.

Tyler Shough: Modest numbers in preseason start
Sunday, August 17, 2025 4:52 PM
Shough completed nine of 12 passes for 66 yards in Sunday's 17-17 preseason tie against the Jaguars.
Shough got the start but led the Saints to only three points on four first-half drives. Spencer Rattler, who started the team's first preseason game against the Chargers, had 199 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception in the second half Sunday. The quarterback competition between the 2025 second-round pick Shough and the 2024 fifth-rounder Rattler likely won't be decided until after the Saints' preseason finale against the Broncos on Saturday.

Rashid Shaheed: Three catches in preseason tie
Sunday, August 17, 2025 4:40 PM
Shaheed caught all three of his targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 17-17 preseason tie against the Jaguars.
Shaheed suited up for his first game action since Week 6 of the last season, when he tore the meniscus in his knee. He got the start at wide receiver opposite Chris Olave, and they combined for five first-half catches on passes from rookie second-round pick Tyler Shough. The Saints have yet to settle on a starting quarterback between Shough and Spencer Rattler heading into their third and final game of the preseason Saturday against the Broncos.
