Chase Curtis: Won't return Friday
Friday, August 21, 2026 9:46 PM
Curtis (knee) is out for the remainder of Friday's preseason contest at Pittsburgh.
The exact severity of the injury is unknown at this point, but it will at least keep Curtis off the field for the rest of today. In his absence, fellow undrafted rookie free-agent tight end Connor Hulstein may see an uptick in snaps.

Nick Chubb: Announces retirement
Friday, August 21, 2026 9:43 PM
Chubb announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday, Tom Pelissero of Netflix reports.
Chubb, a second-round selection of the Browns in the 2018 NFL Draft, has elected to hang up his cleats following eight seasons in the NFL. He rushed for over 1,000 yards in four consecutive seasons from 2019 to 2022, which earned him a Pro Bowl nod in each of those campaigns and a spot on the All-Pro Second Team in 2019. Chubb's 2023 campaign was brutally cut short by an ACL, MCL and meniscus tear in his left knee, and while he recovered enough to suit up for eight regular-season games the following year, he could not recapture the same explosiveness that made him one of the standout running backs in the league. Chubb spent the first seven years of his NFL career with the Browns before playing in 15 regular-season games for the Texans in 2025. He'll end his professional career with 7,349 rushing yards and 54 touchdowns on 1,462 carries (5.0 YPC) along with 141 catches (on 193 targets) for 1,109 yards and five scores over 100 regular-season games.

Jayden Reed: Will not suit up Friday
Friday, August 21, 2026 8:57 PM
Reed won't play in Friday's preseason game in Denver, per Mike Spofford of the Packers' official site.
Reed briefly missed some practice time earlier this month but was able to play in preseason Week 1 at Pittsburgh, when he hauled in one of two targets for 19 yards. The Packers are resting only Reed among their receiving corps Friday, meaning all of Christian Watson, Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, among others, will be available for QB Jordan Love.

Josh Jacobs: Won't suit up Friday
Friday, August 21, 2026 8:53 PM
Jacobs (groin) won't play in Friday's preseason game at Denver, according to Mike Spofford of the Packers' official site.
Jacobs returned to practice Tuesday after missing time with a groin issue, so Green Bay appears to be taking a cautious approach with its lead running back at this point during exhibition season. His absence Friday is notable for workload management, but he remains on track for regular-season duties if he avoids setbacks.

Marvin Mims: Might play Friday
Friday, August 21, 2026 8:27 PM
Mims (undisclosed) is in uniform ahead of the Broncos' preseason game against the Packers on Friday, Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reports.
Mims has been working through an unspecified injury, limiting him to side work during training camp practices. He's on the field in uniform, but it's unclear whether he will actually play in Friday's exhibition contest. If Mims does play, then he'll likely be limited to one or two offensive series and see minimal return work on kickoffs and punts.

Jake Tonges: Quiet in preseason win
Friday, August 21, 2026 8:26 PM
Tonges did not record any stats in Thursday's 41-17 preseason win against the Chargers.
Tonges only played 18 snaps during Thursday's contest, and the ball was never thrown his way. He currently projects to start at tight end for the 49ers come Week 1 in the event that two-time All-Pro George Kittle (Achilles) is not available. However, per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Kittle still has a real chance to suit up in that Week 1 matchup in Australia against the Rams, a development that would leave Tonges with a significantly smaller role.

Jaylen Waddle: May play Friday
Friday, August 21, 2026 8:17 PM
Waddle is in uniform for Friday's preseason game versus the Packers, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports.
After dealing with muscle tightness in his leg in early August, Waddle got back on the practice field Monday and progressed to team drills one day later. With his health seemingly not in question, he's poised to see his first game action with QB Bo Nix after Denver traded for the wide receiver's services back in March.

Michael Mayer: Sits out Thursday
Friday, August 21, 2026 8:14 PM
Mayer did not play in Thursday's 22-20 preseason loss to the Texans.
Mayer has fully recovered from the nose injury that plagued him in early August, but the tight end remained sidelined during Thursday's contest. The 2023 second-rounder joined fellow tight end Brock Bowers on the sideline Thursday, and it appears unlikely he will play any more snaps until the regular season commences.
|
Kimani Vidal: Plays 19 offensive snaps Thursday
Friday, August 21, 2026 8:12 PM
Vidal turned four carries into six yards while catching both targets for 10 yards during the Chargers' 41-17 preseason loss to the 49ers on Thursday. He also returned one kickoff for 27 yards.
Vidal was the third running back with a touch behind Omarion Hampton and Keaton Mitchell, and Vidal's 19 snaps on offense were most among Chargers running backs. Vidal's production Thursday was not as good as his performance in the Chargers' preseason opener against the Texans, and it looks like Mitchell is in the lead for the RB2 job behind Hampton. The Chargers wrap up their preseason this Thursday against the Rams.

DT Sheffield: Let go with injury settlement
Friday, August 21, 2026 8:07 PM
The Jets waived Sheffield (undisclosed) from injured reserve with an injury settlement Friday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Sheffield was set to miss the entire 2026 season after reverting to the Jets' injured reserve Thursday. However, the injury settlement allows the Rutgers wide receiver to sign and play with a team once he's fully recovered from his undisclosed injury.
