Fields was afforded two possessions in the Jets' second exhibition, which resulted in a punt and a successful Nick Folk field-goal attempt. Through two exhibitions, Fields has targeted top WR Garrett Wilson four times, but all four have gone down as incompletions. It's unclear of coach Aaron Glenn will trot out the starters in Friday's preseason finale against the Eagles, but if he doesn't, Fields will be under center for New York's Week 1 matchup with the Steelers on Sunday, Sept. 7.

Fields' first foray in his new offensive system has to be deemed a success, and he's likely to get even more reps during next Saturday night's exhibition against the Giants.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said Thursday that Fields (toe) will suit up for Saturday's preseason opener against the Packers, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.

Glenn didn't say how much run New York's starting units will get Saturday, so it remains to be seen whether Fields and company will suit up for more than a few drives, but at this stage in the preseason it's uncommon for starters to handle more than a quarter. Fields has been a full participant in 11-on-11 drills since suffering a dislocated toe in practice late July, albeit while wearing a plastic shield on his cleat, but there now appear to be no tangible limitations regarding his activity level. Rich Cimini of ESPN reports that the Jets' passing game has struggled to find its groove throughout the early stages of training camp, so Saturday's preseason opener will represent a chance for Fields to alleviate those concerns.

Cook and the Bills have reached an agreement on a four-year contract extension for the running back, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN reports.

Per the report, Cook's four-year pact is for $48 million and includes $30 million guaranteed. The 2022 second-rounder, who had returned to practice Tuesday following a four day 'hold-in' is thus a candidate to play against the Bears on Sunday after not seeing any action in the Bills' preseason opener this past Saturday. As the 2025 regular season approaches, Cook remains the clear leader of a Buffalo backfield that also includes Ray Davis and Ty Johnson.

Cook is expected to practice Tuesday according to Bills head coach Sean McDermott, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.

Cook is seeking a contract extension and hasn't practiced in about a week as part of a "hold in" strategy. McDermott said Tuesday that "things have changed," leading to Cook's return to practice, and that "the information that we're getting is that he's moving in the right direction," per Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News. Those comments hint at positive developments in the contract negotiations, though McDermott cautioned that it's too soon to say the running back had ended his hold-in, per Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic. Ray Davis and Ty Johnson have handled the majority of first-team reps during Cook's voluntary absence.

Cook, who was in uniform during pre-game warmups, didn't play in Saturday's 34-25 preseason loss to the Giants, Jonah Bronstein of wivb.com reports.

After reporting to training camp and fully participating for the first two weeks, Cook had been "holding in" since Sunday, citing "business" reasons for his non-participation in the team's last four practices. On Saturday, however, Cook took one rep with the Bills' first-team offense during warmups before sitting out a contest that top QB Josh Allen was held out of. Per Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com, coach Sean McDermott noted that he had a conversation with Cook on Friday, with the running back agreeing to warm up but declining to play Saturday due to his contract situation.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Friday he doesn't plan to play the starters, including Waddle, during Saturday's preseason game against the Lions, Tom D'Angelo of the Palm Beach Post reports.

Waddle sat out Miami's preseason opener due to a collision that occurred during joint practices with the Bears, but he returned to practice this week and has participated in team drills against Detroit. He'll need to wait until the Dolphins' preseason finale against the Jaguars on Sat., Aug. 23, however, for a chance to see exhibition reps. Meanwhile, Tyreek Hill (oblique) has not yet returned to practice.

Waddle is taking part in team drills at Thursday's joint practice with the Lions, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.

Waddle returned to practice Wednesday, also a joint session with the Detroit, though coach Mike McDaniel said his rep count was limited, per David Furones of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. While Waddle's overall workload may still be being managed Thursday, he essentially appears back to full health after having been banged-up during a collision with a Bears defender in last week's joint practices. If McDaniel opts to play the starters during Saturday's exhibition matchup against the Lions, it doesn't appear injuries would prevent Waddle from suiting up.

Waddle continues to recover from a collision suffered during joint practices with the Bears last week, which forced him to miss Miami's preseason opener, so it's encouraging to see him back on the field for joint sessions against Detroit. McDaniel confirmed that Waddle and Tyreek Hill (oblique) both remain "day-to-day," however, so it seems like the pair of starting wideouts will be limited in some capacity while returning to practice. Saturday's road game against Detroit represents Waddle's next opportunity to get on the field for exhibition reps.

Hall and Braelon Allen split the backfield work during the Jets' first two possessions of preseason Week 2, with the latter also earning seven carries (for 34 yards) on the evening. The operation under new head coach Aaron Glenn figures to be ground-based, considering the mobile Justin Fields will be directing the offense this season, but Hall appears as if he'll be ceding some carries to Allen on a weekly basis. Hall is coming off a third pro campaign in 2024 in which he notched 1,359 yards from scrimmage and eight total TDs on 266 touches across 16 regular-season games.

Hall (undisclosed) returned to Tuesday's practice a few minutes after leaving the field to talk with trainers, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports.

He apparently avoided a significant injury and will jump back in with the first-team offense ahead of Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis. There's been chatter this summer about Allen in particular taking more work away from Hall, but we may have to wait until Week 1 to have a good idea about how that plays out.
