Tagovailoa completed 26 of 32 passes for 315 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the Dolphins' 33-27 loss to the Patriots on Sunday.

Tagovailoa and the Dolphins' offense as a whole were in dire straits over the first quarter-plus as the Patriots raced out to a 12-0 lead. Matters took a turn for the better in the second quarter when Tagovailoa hit Jaylen Waddle and De'Von Achane for touchdown passes of 18 and 29 yards, respectively. However, although Tagovailoa was able to compile some yardage in the second half, he wasn't able to lead Miami to anything other than a pair of field goals, as the Dolphins' other second-half points came from a Malik Washington 74-yard punt return touchdown. The Dolphins already have their backs against the wall at 0-2, making Thursday night's Week 3 road matchup against the Bills a critical early-season game for Tagovailoa and his teammates.

In a harbinger of the type of game it would be for the Dolphins offense and Tagovailoa in particular, the 2020 first-round pick sailed a pass intended for Tyreek Hill very high on the opening drive, leading to an interception by Camryn Bynum. The veteran signal-caller then handed the ball to the Colts again on the next possession, losing a fumble recovered by former teammate Xavien Howard. Tagovailoa would go on to short-circuit another possession with a third-quarter interception in Indianapolis territory, and only his 11-yard touchdown pass to De'Von Achane and subsequent two-point conversion pass to Julian Hill in the fourth quarter gave the signal-caller's fantasy day any semblance of respectability. Tagovailoa's first opportunity for atonement comes in a Week 2 home matchup next Sunday against a Patriots defense that allowed 362 yards to the Raiders' Geno Smith in Week 1 while playing without Christian Gonzalez (hamstring).

Achane rushed 11 times for 30 yards and brought in eight of 10 targets for 92 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins' 33-27 loss to the Patriots on Sunday.

The Dolphins were already down 12-0 at the end of one quarter, which immediately put Achane in catch-up mode when it came to consistent rushing opportunities. As his final line indicates, those remained relatively sparse overall, but game script did work in his favor when it came to his pass-catching role. Achane finished as the Dolphins' leader in both receptions and targets, while finishing second to only Tyreek Hill in receiving yards. Achane also went in for his second receiving touchdown in as many games to open the season when he recorded an impressive 29-yard grab late in the first half, and he'll be slated for a key two-way role again during what is already essentially a must-win scenario for the Dolphins in a Week 3 Thursday night road matchup against the Bills.

Achane was certainly efficient on the ground, but his opportunities were capped by a surprising game script that saw the Colts already ahead by a 20-0 margin at halftime. The speedy back did offer underwhelmed fantasy managers some solace with his fourth-quarter 11-yard touchdown reception, and more opportunities on the ground should be available in a Week 2 home matchup against the Patriots.

Achane (calf) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Colts, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.

Achane participated without limitations in practice Friday and avoided a Week 1 injury designation after limited sessions Wednesday and Thursday. He'll be backed up by rookie sixth-round pick Ollie Gordon against the Colts, as fellow running back Jaylen Wright (knee) was ruled out Friday. Gordon could be better suited for short-yardage work, but the speedy Achane should get the majority of touches in Miami's backfield.

Hill brought in six of seven targets for 109 yards and returned one punt for 19 yards in the Dolphins' 33-27 loss to the Patriots on Sunday.

Hill set the pace for the Dolphins in receiving yards while checking in second in receptions and targets. Hill's day could have been even bigger had Tua Tagovailoa not missed him when he was wide open on a second-half pass, but the fact the talented wideout put together his first 100-yard effort of the campaign was certainly a bright spot during a loss that dropped the Dolphins to 0-2. With Miami desperate for a win, Hill figures to be prominently featured again in a Thursday night Week 3 road matchup against the Bills that is arguably already a critical game for the Dolphins.

Hill, who was limited at practice last Wednesday and Thursday, is not listed on the Dolphins' Week 2 injury report, Travis Wingfield of the team's official site reports.

Hill managed oblique and calf issues leading up to Week 1 action, but he didn't carry an injury designation ahead of Miami's 33-8 loss to the Colts on Sunday and is now off the injury report altogether. Per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, on the subject of recent domestic violence allegations pertaining to Hill -- that are being reviewed by the league, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network -- coach Mike McDaniel noted Wednesday, "we've been in communication with the NFL and will let the process play out." In Miami's regular-season opener, Hill was on the field for 62 percent of the team's snaps on offense and caught four of his six targets for 40 yards.

Commanders coach Dan Quinn said Brown (groin) will not practice Wednesday, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports.

Brown was ruled out due to a groin injury early during last Thursday's loss to the Packers, but per Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site, Quinn said he's now "more encouraged than I was Monday," when he called the No. 3 receiver a longshot to suit up Week 3. That said, Brown will almost certainly need to resume practicing in at least a limited fashion Thursday and/or Friday for any chance of being cleared for Sunday's game against the Raiders, a game for which quarterback Jayden Daniels (knee) also looks uncertain.

Brown was ruled out for the rest of Thursday's game against the Packers due to a groin injury.
