Keaontay Ingram: Reverts to IR
Friday, May 16, 2025 7:14 PM

Ingram (undisclosed) reverted to injured reserve Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

The Chiefs waived Ingram with an injury designation Thursday, and after clearing waivers, the 25-year-old was placed on IR. The USC product got into just one game for Kansas City last season, logging five special-teams snaps and no offensive snaps. Ingram will miss the 2025 campaign unless he works out an injury settlement with the Chiefs.

Greg Zuerlein: Cut following failed physical
Friday, May 16, 2025 6:27 PM

The Jets released Zuerlein (knee) with a failed physical designation Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Zuerlein landed on injured reserve after Week 8 last season due to a left knee injury but was activated from the list prior to a Week 17 matchup with the Bills. He didn't attempt a kick in that game and then was placed on IR afterward, ending his campaign having made nine of 15 field-goal attempts and 13 of 14 point-after tries. The Jets announced the current move earlier Friday, but the reason for his release wasn't known until the NFL posted its transaction log for the day. New York will move forward with Anders Carlson and undrafted rookie Caden Davis this offseason, while the 37-year-old Zuerlein presumably will need to prove his health in order to earn another opportunity.

Greg Joseph: Headed to 49ers
Friday, May 16, 2025 6:03 PM

The 49ers are slated to sign Joseph, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.

In a combined eight regular-season appearances in 2024 (split between the Giants, Commanders and Jets), Joseph made 16 of 20 field-goal attempts, along with all 11 of his PAT tries. With the 49ers, Joseph will have an opportunity to compete with 2023 third-rounder Jake Moody, who has been San Francisco's kicker for the last two campaigns.

Brock Purdy: Gets massive five-year extension
Friday, May 16, 2025 5:10 PM

Purdy and the 49ers agreed to terms Friday on a five-year, $265 million contract extension, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Purdy's new deal has been the largest domino waiting to fall of San Francisco's offseason, and the 2022 seventh-round pick now gains long-term commitment from the team via a contract that runs through 2030, and which includes $181 million in total guarantees. The 25-year-old is coming off a down season, having dipped essentially across the board in most passing metrics while throwing just 20 touchdowns, as opposed to the 31 passing scores he logged in 2023. San Francisco's offense as a whole tumbled in 2024, though, an outcome that can in no small part be blamed on injuries to Brandon Aiyuk (ACL) and Christian McCaffrey (knee). The 49ers also inked George Kittle to a four-year extension this offseason, a particularly notable signing given that the standout tight end may operate as Purdy's top pass catcher to kick off the 2025 season, considering Deebo Samuel has been traded to Washington and Aiyuk is still in the process of recovering. Still, with McCaffrey back in action, plus Jauan Jennings, Ricky Pearsall and Demarcus Robinson available to lead the wide-receiver room until Aiyuk is 100 percent, Purdy will have no shortage of offensive weapons at his disposal as he works to make the first year under his new deal a comeback season.

Anders Carlson: Competing for starting role
Friday, May 16, 2025 3:14 PM

Carlson and undrafted rookie Caden Davis are slated to compete for the Jets' starting kicker job in training camp in the wake of the Jets having released veteran Greg Zuerlein (knee) Friday, Andy Vasquez of NJ.com reports.

Carlson kicked for New York in five regular-season games in 2024, while also logging two appearances with the 49ers. In those seven contest combined, he converted 13 of 15 field-goal attempts and 12 of 15 extra-point tries. Zuerlein's release has been expected all offseason, but with the transaction now official, Carlson's path to a starting role Week 1 is unambiguous. The Jets could still bring in further competition, but for the time being, Davis, an undrafted rookie out of Ole Miss, is his only rival for the No. 1 gig.

Greg Zuerlein: Released by Gang Green
Friday, May 16, 2025 2:07 PM

The Jets released Zuerlein (knee) on Friday.

Zuerlein had one year remaining on the two-year, $8.4 million extension he inked with New York last offseason, but the team now opts to release the 13-year veteran after injuries limited him to eight appearances in 2024. The 37-year-old converted just nine of 15 field-goal tries in that span (60 percent), but he was good on 13 of 14 PATs. Anders Carlson and Caden Davis remain in position to compete for the Jets' starting kicker spot during training camp. Zuerlein is presumably recovered from the knee issue that forced him to miss the final nine games of 2024, given that he was cleared to resume practicing late in the season.

Troy Hairston: Could have role in 2025
Friday, May 16, 2025 7:44 AM

Hairston is in line for a role on the 2025 roster with the expectation that the Browns will utilize the fullback position this season, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.

Hairston, who signed a futures contract with the Browns in January, has game experience at fullback from when he was with the Texans. Whether the Browns actually carry a fullback and make plans to use the position will evolve over the summer. Hairston's fate is tied to the number of tight ends and true running backs that end up sticking around.

Justin Lockhart: Let go with injury settlement
Thursday, May 15, 2025 7:48 PM

Lockhart (undisclosed) was waived from injured reserve with an injury settlement by the Chiefs on Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

The wide receiver will now be eligible to play in 2025 since he's been waived with the settlement. An undrafted free agent who signed with Kansas City earlier this month, Lockhart caught 53 passes for 983 yards and five touchdowns at San Jose State in 2024.

Keaontay Ingram: Waived/injured by KC
Thursday, May 15, 2025 7:41 PM

Ingram (undisclosed) was waived/injured by the Chiefs on Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

The running back will revert to injured reserve once he clears waivers. Ingram spent 2024 with Kansas City, appeared in one game and on five special-teams snaps and landed a reserve/future contract after the season. The 2022 sixth-round pick of the Cardinals spent two seasons with his original team and carried the ball 62 times for 136 yards and a touchdown.

Patrick Murtagh: Waived by Jacksonville
Thursday, May 15, 2025 7:25 PM

Murtagh was waived by the Jaguars on Thursday.

The tight end appears to be healthy again since he was let go with no injury designation. Murtagh signed with the Jags in April 2024 through the NFL's International Player Pathway Program and then broke his ankle during a training camp goal-line drill. The former track athlete and Australian rules football player will now have to look elsewhere for his next NFL opportunity.
