ErikH Only Team Above 300 Going to Conference Titles

The 2017-18 World Famous Playoff Challenge rolls on into its penultimate week this weekend, and its leader is the same as it was after the Wild Card matchups. ErikH’s GDF had Le’Veon Bell go off for 36.5 and also got big scores from Stefon Diggs (25.7), Drew Brees (24.8) and Rob Gronkowski (23.1).

Right behind that squad in second is David Hubbard’s meahan at 297.6 with and Giuseppe Liantonio’s Amish Rake Fight’s 294.05 score is sitting in third. Scott Johnson’s Coach’s Crunchers Corvette moved up to fourth with 290.75. Dan Jasiak’s squad slipped to fifth from second last week with 290.55 total points.

Schroeder & Brown Win Varsity Leagues; Challenge Nearly 95% Full

Schroeder & Brown Take Varsities

Schroeder’s 4th ’17 HSFF Title; Brown Repeats as Champ

In 2017, we once again offered two separate Varsity leagues that featured $3,000 entries in total points formats. And after the dust settled in Week 16, it was Chad Schroeder and Brody Brown’s squads that each took home the two $20,000 first place prizes.

In Varsity #1, Schroeder’s Cocktails and Dreams tallied 2,315 points on the year, which was plenty to defeat Ryan Thurlow’s JV entry that scored 2,182. Schroeder’s lead was significant enough that he was able to weather two zeroes in Week 16 from Michael Crabtree and Alshon Jeffery to hang on for the title as Le’Veon Bell’s 20.7 led the way for Cocktails the final week.

Thurlow brought home $8,500 for second with defending champion Left or Right? I forgot taking third. Todd Range and Richard Moore cashed $4,000 for their efforts.

Over in Varsity #2, it was Brody Brown’s Das Coffee defending its 2016 title, putting up a 179.95 in Week 16 behind Todd Gurley’s 49.6, Philly’s defense’s 22 and Zach Ertz’s 21.6 en route to a 49-point victory over Doug Bowman and Michael Nolte’s Dezi’s Ghosts. Brown cashed $20,000 while Bowman and Nolte split $8,500 for finishing second in this league as well. The $4,000 third place award went to Larry Weinhauer’s Troy’s Boys squad.

Congrats to all six teams that cashed, and we look forward to seeing how these leagues play out again in 2018!

Kruse Takes $10K Super Bracket

Yesterday, I wrote about Brad Kruse’s Fantasy Assassins taking home the $2500 Auction thanks in part to Todd Gurley. Today, I wanted to tell you about Kruse’s big victory in the $10,000 Super Bracket Tournament thanks to–you guessed it–Todd Gurley as well as Zach Ertz’s 21.6. Kruse’s 12th-seeded Assassins beat Greg Link’s 11th-seeded Legion of Doom in the final 159.05-125.4. Link still did pocket $2,500 as the runner-up.

Anything can happen in the Super Bracket, and it didn’t let us down from an entertainment standpoint this season once again. Thanks to all 96 players that participated!

Schroeder Takes Off-The-Grid Title; Playoff Challenge Two-Thirds Full

Schroeder Is Off-The-Grid Champ

Cocktails and Dreams Pockets Nearly $16,000 For Victory

One of the most enjoyable formats that we offer continues to be the FFPC Off-The-Grid Challenge. And it was extra enjoyable for Chad Schroeder this year as he cashed $10,000 for winning the league, $2,000 for being the one seed and nearly $4,000 in weekly skins. Once again, it was Todd Gurley’s 49.6 leading the way as Schroeder defeated John Shaw’s War Eagle 332.15-291 in the two-week final.

Shaw, who took third in this competition last year, earned $4,000 for second as well as another $2300 for a weekly skin. Placing third in the competition was Jason Steeves’ CANADIAN BEAVERS who brought in $2,000 for their efforts. Jim Nicola’s Pickpockets were also able to bring in $2,000 for being the two seed heading into the Championship Round.

With players bidding real money on their draft slots as well as free agent acquisitions, the Off-The-Grid challenge continues to be one of the most fun and compelling leagues we run. We look forward to doing it all again next year when 11 challengers will try to defeat Cocktails and Dreams in its defense for the title.

Schroeder Wins $60K in Big Paybacks; Playoff Challenge Over Half Full

Schroeder Wins Pair of Paybacks

Schleicher Wins Big Payback League #3 For $25,000

Right up there with the High Society league are our Big Payback leagues that feature a $5,000 entry fee and $25,000 first place prize. And coming out on top in two of them was a familiar face and a former FFPC Main Event winner.

In the Big Payback #1 league, it was Chad Schroeder’s Cocktails and Dreams, led by Melvin Gordon’s 21.8, that snuck out a win over Jeff Tirabassi’s Cornfins and Bruce Kinder’s COBALTO. Schroeder’s two-week score of 256.05 edges Tirabassi’s 252.7 and Kinder’s 252.6. Even fourth place Patrick Daly’s Wall Street Warrior finished less than eight points out of first with a 248.7 score. Schroeder banked $25,000 for first along with an additional $5,000 for being the number two seed. Tirabassi took home $15,000 for second and $5,000 more for the one seed. Kinder cashed $5,000 for third.

Different league, same story in Big Payback #2, as Schroeder won the crown there as well, this time going away. His 359.4 blew away second place Todd Bargstadt’s Killer B’s that tallied 286.6. Schroeder was aided by Gordon in that league as well as getting 49.6 from Todd Gurley and 27.95 from Larry Fitzgerald in Week 16. Cocktails and Dreams took home $25,000 for first and $5,000 for the one seed again while Bargstadt won $15,000 for second and $5,000 for the regular season two seed. Coming in third for $5,000 was Garrett Lerner’s Haynoch.

Kimra Schleicher’s CC’s Hitters brought home the title in Big Payback #3 in 2017 with Dion Lewis (32.3), Jared Goff (30.45) and Kareem Hunt (20.6) leading the way in Week 16 for her. She cashed $25,000 for her efforts with The Hair Guru owned by Chris Avey hitting $15,000 for second and an additional $5,000 for being the two seed. Bringing home third place were Blake Bohn and Aalok Arora for $5,000 with the duo getting an extra $5,000 for being the one seed.

It was such a treat to see these 36 teams play out these three leagues over the course of the season. Congrats to the winners, especially Schroeder for winning two titles. In 2018, these leagues should be just as fun and competitive once again!

Darren Summer Wins High Society

Gurley, Lewis Help Close Out Title Over Gaché

For the first time since 2014, the FFPC High Society league has a brand new champion. After Glenn Lowy went back-to-back in 2015 and 2016, Darren Summer’s Royale with Cheese was able to come out on top in 2017. Summer outscored second place Lagos 53 owned by Ron Gaché 342-298.7 in the two-week playoff.

Led by Todd Gurley (49.6), Dion Lewis (32.3) and Melvin Gordon (21.8), Summer won the $50,000 grand prize as well as the $10,000 regular season prize for being the one seed. Gaché took home $30,000 for second with Patrick Haley’s RJAS bringing in $20,000: $10,000 for third and $10,000 for the regular season two seed. Brian Owens, who finished in the top three the last two years, won $4,000 for being the top-scoring team in the consolation bracket.

Big thanks to all 12 teams in this league which once again made it very exciting to follow throughout the season! We hope to see you all back in 2018 in the High Society!

Cheers To Beers, the 2017 Pros Vs. Joes Champ

Rotoviz’s Mike Beers Wins PVJ

Pros Beat Joes For Third Time in Four Years

After Blake Pyle briefly held the overall title for the Pros Vs. Joes Challenge for a year, first place has come back to roost with the Pros side thanks to Mike Beers from Rotoviz. His 2,794.7 points in this 28-round Best Ball competition was good enough to win it all, finishing comfortably ahead of fellow pro Brandon Marianne Lee of Her Fantasy Football.

You can also hear from Beers on The High Stakes Fantasy Football Hour Friday night at 10/9c when he joins David A. Gerczak and me. Drafting on night number two of the six-day Pros Vs. Joes extravaganza, he made some crucial picks that helped propel him to the crown:

  • Todd Gurley (3.04)
  • Tyreek Hill (5.04)
  • Mark Ingram (6.09)

Lee finished ten points ahead of third-place John Rozek, who was the top Joe from this year’s contest. Jay Myers from Dynasty Football Warehouse joined Beers, Lee and Rozek as league winners as his squad took fourth. This year’s hard-luck winner went to FFPC Joe Don Lacknett who took fifth overall but placed second in his own league just behind Lee. Here are the top ten teams from 2017 (* denotes individual league winner):

  1. League 2    2794.7    PRO    Mike Beers    *Mike Beers – Rotoviz.com
  2. League 5    2758.15    PRO    Brandon Marianne Lee    *Brandon Marianne Lee – HerFantasyFootball.com
  3. League 3    2748.15    JOE    john rozek    *john rozek
  4. League 6    2736.9    PRO    Jay Myers    *Jay Myers – DynastyFootballWarehouse.com
  5. League 5    2733.3    JOE    Don Lacknett    Don Lacknett
  6. League 6    2724.7    PRO    Jared Smola    Jared Smola – DraftSharks.com
  7. League 4    2687.1    JOE    Zach Jarosz & Shane    *Zach Jarosz & Shane Gray
  8. League 1    2678.45    PRO    Mike Visconti    *FantasySportsCentral.com
  9. League 3    2662.25    JOE    Ryan Santos    Ryan Santos
  10. League 4    2642.45    PRO    Jen Ryan    Jen Ryan – @FFdeJENerate – Football Diehards
Not only did the Pros win the overall title, but they won four out of the six leagues for the second consecutive year. As a reminder, each of these league-winners will take a home a free 2018 FFPC Main Event team for their performances.

Congrats to all the champs in each of these leagues and a huge THANK YOU to Darren Armani from FantasyMojo.com who once again did a great job of assembling 72 awesome players who waged some great competition throughout the 2017 season. For all things Pros Vs. Joes, check out the link to FantasyMojo.com here. You’ll see draft boards, results and previous years results and players listed as well.
